Reviver Protocol - A Complete Journey

1.
Active listening

Welcoming the other is the beginning of any healing. In affective listening, the therapist stands face-to-face, with an attentive and nonjudgmental heart , listening not only to words but also to silences, gestures, and gazes. This listening touches the dimension of being where fear dissolves and trust can be born.

This initial moment inhibits the activation of the amygdala , reducing fears and defenses, and prepares the nervous system for relaxation . It's the first step toward the body entering a polyvagal state, where a sense of security begins to flourish.

Scientific concepts:

  • Amygdala Inhibition: Studies show that safe environments and empathic listening reduce hyperactivation of the amygdala, a region linked to fear and defense (Porges, 2011; Siegel, 2012);

  • Polyvagal Theory (Stephen Porges): Confident communication (including facial and vocal) activates the ventral branch of the vagus nerve, facilitating relaxation and social connection.

2.
Breathing Exercises

Breathing is a bridge between the body and consciousness. Guiding the elderly to breathe consciously activates the vagus nerve , the main regulator of the parasympathetic nervous system. Deep, rhythmic breathing regulates heart rate, lowers blood pressure, and reinforces a sense of security and presence . In this state, the body understands it can rest, opening space for the next stages to be received with abandon.

Scientific concepts:

  • Vagus nerve activation: Breathing slowly and deeply stimulates the vagus nerve, reduces heart rate and promotes states of relaxation (Jerath et al., 2006);

  • Parasympathetic response: Conscious breathing strengthens the parasympathetic system, promoting physiological recovery.

3.
Guided meditation
with music

Here, thought begins to transform internal chemistry. Guided meditation acts directly on the limbic system , influencing emotions and promoting the release of feel-good neurotransmitters. A gentle voice, positive mental imagery, and music with specific frequencies guide the body into subtle states, regulating the mind and accessing deeper levels of perception.
We are made of frequency. Like water (over 60% of the body), we are shaped by sound and intention. The music we choose, with tones that resonate with the heart and energy centers, acts as a vibrational balm that gently penetrates tissues, thoughts, and memories.

Scientific concepts:

  • Neurochemical change: Meditation reduces cortisol and increases serotonin and dopamine, promoting relaxation and well-being (Tang et al., 2015).

  • Effects of music: Specific musical frequencies (such as 432 Hz or 528 Hz) have been associated with stress reduction and emotional modulation (Chanda & Levitin, 2013).

4.
Thai Massage

The body can now be touched safely and with presence. At this stage, the conscious stretching, pressure, and rocking of Thai Massage awaken the body to its own sensory intelligence . Present and respectful touch awakens neuroplasticity , stimulates new cellular receptors , and reorganizes old postural and emotional patterns.
The practice is conducted like a dance, and each movement invites the body to remember its capacity to regenerate, to open space and to receive life gently.

Scientific concepts:

  • Neuroplasticity and touch: Quality therapeutic touch modulates the activity of the somatosensory cortex, reorganizing neuromuscular patterns (Field, 2010);

  • Body regeneration: Stretching and mobilization promote the release of cell growth factors, such as BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor).

5.
Cupping therapy
Integrative

Circulation is awakened, and tissues gain new vitality. After Thai massage, cupping therapy (therapeutic use of suction cups) acts profoundly to promote blood and lymphatic circulation , release myofascial tension , and stimulate the immune system.
The negative pressure effect created by cupping mobilizes essential nutrients to the tissues, removes accumulated metabolic waste, and promotes the release of energetic and emotional blockages stored in the body.
Applied with technique, presence and sensitivity, Cupping Therapy enhances the opening of internal spaces for regeneration and deep relaxation.

*This step is carefully evaluated by the therapist and applied, if the user's condition allows it.

Scientific concepts:

  • Increased local circulation: The negative pressure of the suction cups stimulates blood perfusion and accelerates tissue repair processes (Chi et al., 2016).

  • Inflammatory modulation: Cupping therapy promotes local anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, favoring immune balance (Rozenfeld & Kalichman, 2016).

6.
Segmental

Integration is completed through spontaneous movement and empathy. In this final stage, segmental movements—inspired by Reich's approach—are guided with music, presence, and lightness. Mirror neurons are activated, fostering empathy and connection between therapist and client.
Simple, symbolic movements help release muscular and emotional armor , accessing bodily memories and integrating feelings of belonging, expression, and freedom. A hug at the end promotes the release of oxytocin , the bonding hormone, sealing the experience with love and warmth.

Scientific concepts:

  • Mirror neurons: Dance and shared movement activate mirror neuron networks, increasing empathy and emotional regulation (Rizzolatti & Craighero, 2004);
    Oxytocin release: Physical contact and synchronized movements increase the secretion of oxytocin, the "bonding hormone" (Uvnas-Moberg, 1998).

At the end of this path, the limbic system reorganizes itself,
the body enters a state of neurovegetative balance
and the being - now more connected, listened to and cared for -
can feel whole again.

Reviver é mais que um protocolo.
É um reencantamento da vida através do toque,
do silêncio, da escuta e do movimento.

Logistics Operation in Senior Residences

1.

Personalized Initial Assessment

Before beginning activities, each resident undergoes a detailed medical history taken by a REVIVER therapist, focusing on their physical, emotional, and social status. This assessment is conducted carefully and, whenever necessary, in collaboration with the REVIVER supervisory team and the institution's clinical team.

2.

Individual Sessions

Sessions are held individually in the patients' rooms, in a personalized and respectful manner, considering each person's pace, needs and limits.

3.

Frequency and Duration

Each resident receives a 120-minute session per week. The schedule is determined in consultation with the residency coordinator and is available for consultation on the digital platform.

4.

Qualified and Supervised Therapists

All Reviver professionals are certified massage therapists specializing in integrative therapies and trained specifically in the Reviver protocol. They participate in weekly supervision and ongoing training meetings, ensuring excellence, safety, and integrity of care.

5.

Communication and Reporting

At the end of each session, the user is asked to complete a brief form on the platform, ensuring continuous monitoring of service quality and the prompt resolution of any needs. Quarterly reports, compiled from the surveys conducted, are made available to the senior residence management, presenting relevant data and observations on the physical and emotional development of residents, always in accordance with ethical principles and confidentiality.

6.

Adaptability and Security

The protocol is adjustable according to the clinical, cognitive and motor conditions of each resident, with the aim of ensuring that each intervention is beneficial, safe and respectful at all stages.

7.

Digital platform

Through the website's LOG IN section, users can manage their sessions, reschedule or cancel, view the schedule, respond to evaluations for each session, and complete survey forms for validation and verification of results. Senior residence directors will have access to the session schedule and can monitor user progress through reports generated by the surveys. The Reviver director will continuously monitor each user's individual progress, actively participating in updating personalized protocols during weekly training meetings, and ensuring the prompt resolution of any questions or needs that may arise.
